During your stay

  • No pillow forts in the common area, please.

  • We do currently not have an initiation dance, unfortunately. However, the shared spaces are a great place to socialize and meet new friends.

  • Ninja training is not included, but we encourage stealthy maneuvers as long as you don't wake up the resident sleepwalkers.

  • Please don’t. In everyones best interest: no pets allowed in shared spaces.

  • It’s a polite exaggeration. Oslo summers are usually mild and lovely—think 18–25°C (65–77°F) on good days. Locals will still say “it’s chilly,” but they also say that at 22°C. Bring a light jacket for evenings, sunglasses for daytime, and you’ll be perfectly comfortable wandering the city, swimming in the fjord, or hanging out on our terrace.

  • Not quite from you bunk. But guests have been lucky enough to catch it from the rooftop. Oslo is a bit too far south for regular aurora sightings. But you might get lucky during strong solar activity.
The good news: you can see sunsets, sunrises and skies that look like a screensaver from the rooftop deck. We call that a fair trade.

  • Let’s be honest: Oslo is not a budget city. But staying at a hostel in Oslo keeps things sane, especially one with a central location, KIWI (grocery store) next door, social spaces, and insider tips on cheap eats and happy hours. You can absolutely experience Oslo without crying into your wallet.

  • Bunks at Rodes is genuinely close enough to enjoy Oslofjorden without planning an expedition. We’re centrally located in Oslo’s vibrant Grünerløkka area, and many of the city’s waterfront highlights — like Havnepromenaden, public beaches, and ferry departures to the islands — are about a 20- to 25-minute walk or a short bike/transport ride away. That means you can spend your mornings exploring historic streets and your afternoons dipping your toes in the fjord or hopping a ferry to the islands.

  • Yes. We respect sleep. When the sun refuses to set, our blackout curtains step in like heroes. Whether you’re jet-lagged, night-owl-ing, or just not emotionally prepared for daylight at 1 a.m., you can still get proper rest in your bunk.
